After Tom Brady announced Tuesday that he would not be re-signing with the Patriots, the Chargers and Buccaneers were left as the two most likely landing spots for the quarterback.
When news broke on Tuesday evening that Los Angeles was out of the running for Brady, Tampa Bay was left as the obvious choice.
The Bucs have reached an “agreement in principle” with Brady that will pay him around $30 million per year, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. That deal — and all free agent singings — can’t become official until the new league year begins on Wednesday.
If the deal goes through as expected, Brady will travel to Denver this fall to take on the Broncos. Tampa Bay is among Denver’s 2020 opponents.
The Broncos are the only team in the NFL that Brady has a losing record against (8-9). In the playoffs, Brady is 1-3 against Denver. He wouldn’t face the Broncos in the postseason this year unless the Bucs and Denver meet up in the Super Bowl, which will be played in Tampa Bay.
