Todd McShay’s latest mock draft doesn’t take risks for Redskins

The Redskins go with the expected name in a new expert mock.

Despite the speculation surrounding the Washington Redskins at No. 2, even ESPN’s Todd McShay isn’t willing to go away from Chase Young in his new mock draft.

Said mock draft is the post-combine addition, where McShay notes the Redskins should be thrilled it’s the Cincinnati Bengals holding the top pick:

“Washington is super happy it’s Cincinnati picking at No. 1. Any team not in obvious need of a quarterback would probably be running to the podium to draft Young first overall, but instead, the Redskins land him at No. 2. He’s the best player in the draft and one of the best pass-rushers I’ve ever scouted. Yes, the Redskins had 46 sacks last season (10th in the NFL), but they won’t pass up the opportunity to add a pass-rusher of this caliber. Young had 16.5 sacks to lead the nation despite missing two games, and he could take a middle-of-the-road passing defense to the next level.”

It has to be comforting for Redskins fans to hear a mind like McShay call Young the outright best player in the draft.

Ditto for the fact Young would then join a defense headed up by Ryan Kerrigan and Montez Sweat as it is when it comes to pass rushers.

McShay’s mock won’t quiet some of the noise around the second selection. But it’s a breath of stability at a time when the combine process drummed up more buzz than necessary.
