TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge devs brought the 1987 series cast back for ‘iconic’ performances

Tribute Games went above and beyond with the fan-favorite cast.

Like most old-school TMNT fans, everyone at Tribute Games loves the 1987 animated series. After all, Townsend Coleman, Barry Gordon, Cam Clarke, and Rob Paulsen came up with the personalities for Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo, and Raphael, respectively. So when voiceover discussions for Shredder’s Revenge arrived, bringing back the original cast was a must.

“It was extremely exciting for us to have them on [TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge],” Yannick Belzil, narrative designer at Tribute Games, told GLHF. “The 1987 version of the turtles is iconic. These characters are somewhat set in stone, thanks to their performances. So for me, and all of us [at Tribute Games], it felt legitimizing in a way to have their voices in the game.”

“Getting to write fresh new lines for these actors was thrilling,” Belzil continues. “Especially hearing them say a couple of my jokes as the actual turtles. Cam Clark and Barry Gordon, who play Leonardo and Donatello, also do Bebop and Rocksteady. They’re so funny.”

Belzil spent an afternoon with the actors going over their lines and immediately noticed how close they all were.

“In the last couple of decades, where there are more comic cons than ever, they connected with many fans,” Belzil explains. “I think they saw how much their work on [TMNT] is still pretty beloved. They have a lot of appreciation for it.”
