We have yet another mock draft laying out a scenario in which the Tennessee Titans trade back from No. 22 overall in the 2021 NFL draft, this time with the Baltimore Ravens.
NBC Sports’ Peter King released a mock draft with the event just days away, and in it the Titans trade back in the first round and acquire the Ravens’ No. 27 pick, along with their third-round selection at No. 94 overall.
After pulling off that deal, the Titans take Ole Miss wide receiver Elijah Moore, while the Ravens opt for Michigan edge rusher Kwity Paye.
King’s take on the Titans’ pick is as follows:
After losing receiving targets Corey Davis (free agency, Jets) and Jonnu Smith (free-agency, Patriots), the only star available for Ryan Tannehill is A.J. Brown, a true difference-maker. I think GM Jon Robinson might have to take two wideouts, or a wideout and a tight end, in the first three rounds of this draft. Moore was good in college, but as one draft-watcher told me, he should be a better pro. He has 4.35 speed, and there’s no way a player with that speed should be a 12.9-yards-per-catch guy, which Moore was in three seasons in Oxford. Tannehill’s become a good deep-ball thrower, and he would be better with Moore streaking off the line.
As we’ve said before, we view Moore as more of a second-round pick, and if given the choice between him and Minnesota’s Rashod Bateman in the first round, we’d take the latter.
However, Bateman was already off the board in this mock, as were three cornerbacks who have been connected to the Titans in Northwestern’s Greg Newsome, South Carolina’s Jaycee Horn and Virginia Tech’s Caleb Farley.
If this particular scenario plays out, we wouldn’t mind the Titans waiting until the next few rounds to address cornerback and receiver, and instead opt to grab a defensive line, offensive tackle or EDGE in the first round.
Alabama defensive lineman Christian Barmore, who went at No. 32 in King’s projection, would be a solid pick for Tennessee thanks to their need up the middle following the departure of nose tackle DaQuan Jones to the Panthers.
Along with those aforementioned positions, we wouldn’t rule out the Titans going with a safety or hybrid safety/linebacker after MMQB’s Albert Breer stated that he has heard TCU’s Trevon Moehrig and Notre Dame’s Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah as potential first-round possibilities for Tennessee.
