Titans’ Ryan Tannehill posted solid numbers with and without play action

Ryan Tannehill has been a solid all-around quarterback for the Titans for the 2020 season.

For a team that has been so inconsistent throughout recent history, quarterback Ryan Tannehill has been a godsend for the Tennessee Titans.

The Titans have struggled at the quarterback position over the years possibly more than any other team, but they finally have a signal-caller who is consistent just about every time he steps onto the field.

The Titans run a lot of play action, and Tannehill has been successful on plays with that. But he’s been even more successful without play action, dispelling the notion that he can only thrive with the help of Derrick Henry.

With play action, he’s completed over 60 percent of his passes for 12 touchdowns and three interceptions. Without play action, he’s completed over 68 percent of his pass attempts for 21 touchdowns and four interceptions.

Here’s a look at his numbers in both categories, from Pro Football Focus.

Tannehill completed 65.5 percent of his passes for 3,819 yards, with 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2020.

The reigning NFL Comeback Player of the Year also recorded 266 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on the ground.
