Titans’ Mike Vrabel talks pulling Caleb Farley from period of practice, depth chart

Mike Vrabel explained why he pulled Caleb Farley from a portion of practice on Monday.

As high as we all are on Tennessee Titans 2021 first-round pick and cornerback, Caleb Farley, it’s clear the rookie still has a lot work to do.

That was never more apparent than on Monday when Farley made a mistake and was pulled from a period of practice by head coach Mike Vrabel.

After practice, Vrabel revealed why he pulled Farley, saying he told the rookie “that’s not how we’re going to do it,” per ESPN’s Turron Davenport.

“He’s just got a lot of work to do,” Vrabel said. “He made a mistake or didn’t do something great, kind of stood there or laid on the ground and I just said ‘that’s not how we’re going to do it.’ There are going to be a lot of mistakes that happen through the course of a game, but we’re going to go finish and we’re going to find someone to cover, or find somebody to tackle, or finish the play.”

Vrabel was also asked about the Titans’ first unofficial depth chart of 2021, which was released ahead of Monday’s session (you can check out our biggest takeaways from it right here).

Of course, Vrabel said not to put too much stock into it, while noting that the rookies are near the bottom of their respective positions because “we want to make sure that they’re earning the right to be on this football team, just like everybody else,” per Jim Wyatt of Titans Online.

“We want to make sure that they’re (rookies) earning the right to be on this football team, just like everybody else. There’s a lot of names here, there’s going to be a lot of different combinations as we work our way through the preseason, there will be a lot of combinations on Friday, and as we get to our first game. So, I wouldn’t put a lot of stock into it on what it looks like now, I think we can all anticipate that some of these names will remain as starters for us going into the season, but then there will be a lot of other guys that throughout the course of the preseason and games will work their way up or work their way down.”
