Titans go OT, WR in two-round ESPN mock draft

The Titans go the route most expect them to in a recent two-round mock draft from ESPN.

At this point, any mock draft that doesn’t have the Tennessee Titans taking a wide receiver and left tackle in either order with their first two picks won’t get much love from fans.

Thankfully, ESPN’s Jordan Reid went that route in his latest two-round mock draft, with the Titans taking left tackle Joe Alt and wide receiver Ladd McConkey.

Here’s Reid’s thoughts on the Alt selection:

Over the past two seasons, the Titans’ left tackle spot has been a revolving door, and the team took 64 sacks last season (tied for fourth most). The 6-9, 321-pound Alt could solve the problem. He’s equally as good as a run-blocker as he is in pass protection, with great power and above-average movement skills. Alt keeps getting better, too, as he only has three full seasons at the position after converting from tight end. Teaming him up with guard Peter Skoronski would give the Titans a formidable left side of the offensive line.

And the McConkey selection:

GM Ran Carthon has to focus on finding more targets for Will Levis on the perimeter, and McConkey is an outstanding route runner who simply knows how to generate separation and get open.

At this point, we know selecting Alt would be a home-run pick considering the Titans have had the worst left tackle situation in the sport for two years running now.

The only thing that could prevent Tennessee from taking him is if one of Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers or Rome Odunze is on the board, which they weren’t in this particular mock.

McConkey checks the box at wide receiver in Round 2, but I don’t love the fact that he’s probably better suited as a slot receiver. Of course, that feeling would change if the Titans enter the draft having already added a veteran option on the boundary in free agency or via trade.
