If the Tennessee Titans go the way of NFL.com draft analyst Chad Reuter’s seven-round mock draft, it won’t be a good three days for general manager Jon Robinson.
Here’s a look at who Reuter pegs to the Titans in every round of the 2020 NFL Draft in his latest mock.
Round 1: Kristian Fulton | CB | LSU
Round 2: Bryce Hopkins | TE | Purdue
Round 3: J.K. Dobbins | RB | Ohio State
Round 5: Logan Stenberg | OG | Kentucky
Round 7: Malcolm Roach | DL | Texas
Round 7: Justin Strnad | LB | Wake Forest
Round 7: John Reid | CB | Penn State
While Reuter makes some solid picks with a cornerback in the first round and a running back in the third, he misses the mark with the Titans taking a tight end in the second and a guard in the fifth.
There is simply no need for the Titans to take a tight end, especially that early. The position is already locked up for 2020 with Jonnu Smith, Anthony Firkser and MyCole Pruitt, and there are more pressing needs to address.
If the Titans are going to take an offensive lineman, it’ll likely be a tackle considering both starting guard spots are already occupied and the team has enough depth behind them.
Dennis Kelly will be a solid option to start at right tackle for now after Jack Conklin left in free agency, but figuring out a solution for the long term would be ideal.
Defensive line is another area of need that should be addressed earlier than Reuter has it being done.
Tennessee has yet to figure out a solution for Jurrell Casey, who was traded to the Denver Broncos, and DaQuan Jones will be a free agent in 2021, which the process of rebuilding the defensive line needs to get started. Drafting one in the fifth round doesn’t really help that cause.
Ideally, you’d like to see the Titans address cornerback, offensive tackle and defensive line somewhere in each of the first three rounds. If a viable option doesn’t exist at one of those positions when the Titans are on the clock, then running back or even wide receiver would be the next logical choice.
