The Tennessee Titans entered the offseason with a ton of holes to fill but not much money to do it with. The result was Tennessee going with mostly low-cost, high-upside players who weren’t starters with their past teams, but rather showed the potential to be.
While Tennessee did a solid job addressing one of its biggest needs along the offensive line, the Titans neglected to properly address the wide receiver position, which has no doubt been the biggest gripe from fans and media.
However, things could change drastically on that front, as the Titans are currently one of two teams (along with the New England Patriots) who are vying for the services of star veteran wideout, DeAndre Hopkins.
In a recent article that slaps a grade on the offseason moves of all 32 teams, Sporting News’ Vinnie Iyer gave the Titans a “B” grade for all of their offseason moves, including the draft picks. Here’s his thoughts:
The Titans are on the verge of flipping their offense to a more dynamic version given Levis’ arm and Spears’ change of pace running. Whyle also adds to the young second-year playmaking of Treylon Burks and Chigoziem Okonkwo. With new GM Ran Carthon, they also recognized the need to rebuild the offensive line and reinforce the defensive back seven.
General manager Ran Carthon’s betting on upside approach has been a good one considering the limited funds he’s had to work with, but not adequately addressing the wide receiver position is something that can’t be overlooked.
However, that can be overturned in an instant if the Titans can land Hopkins, a move that would provide the much-needed upgrade Tennessee needs, while also putting them, at worst, neck-and-neck with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the AFC South crown.
