We now know when exactly Notre Dame’s 2021-22 season begins. The season opener, which will take place against Cal State Northridge on Nov. 13 at Purcell Pavilion, is set to tip off at noon EST. The broadcast will be shown exclusively online on ACC Network Extra. Cable subscribers with access to the ACC Network can watch it on WatchESPN and the ESPN app.
This game’s scheduled start time is interesting for a couple of reasons. Most notably, the football team is scheduled to play at Virginia on the same day, but we won’t know the start time or network it will be on until the coming weekend’s action is complete. If the football game ends up getting a noon kickoff, it’s hard to believe any Notre Dame supporter other than the basketball diehards will watch this first game of the season. Yeah, it’s all stupid, but ESPN has its own way of doing things.
The other reason this game’s start time is notable is more on a personal level. By the time this contest is over, I will be in the middle of getting married. So I guess I should take this opportunity to say I obviously won’t be covering the football game that day. However, Nick Shepkowski and Mike Chen are fantastic colleagues, and I know they’ll be able to hold the fort down without me.
