Advice and prediction

This is a game the Thunder could and probably should win. The Rockets have been awful this season, near or at the bottom league in points scored, field goal and 3-point percentage, turnovers and points allowed. Their point differential is the worst in the league.

Oklahoma City, though, hasn’t been much better. The team ranks also extremely low in most offensive metrics and has the fifth-worst point differential. The Rockets’ sole win this season was a 33-point walloping of the Thunder.

Christian Wood in particular was remarkable in that game, and it’s still unclear which Thunder big can handle him. That’s the major question mark for OKC, who needs a win to avoid a three-game losing streak heading into a road stretch against the Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks.

What’s more promising for the Thunder since that October matchup is that Lu Dort has been playing extremely well, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has found his footing and Josh Giddey now has a dozen games of NBA experience.

It’s a game the Thunder should be able to win, but they’re best when they’re trailing and must make a comeback. It’s rare that they get to play an evenly matched, evenly intense team. I’ll take OKC, but I don’t particularly encourage betting on this matchup. Could legitimately go either way.

Prediction: Thunder 104, Rockets 99
