Three things are to thank for Wisconsin’s rushing success against Purdue

Wisconsin turned back the clocks to the days of James White and Melvin Gordon, or maybe John Clay and Montee Ball, on Saturday with win thanks to a dominant performance by running backs Braelon Allen and Chez Mellusi.

The top two backs touched the ball 41 times for 309 total yards and 3 touchdowns. The success in that department allowed the Badgers to capitalize on five defensive takeaways and allowed the team to only need 8 pass attempts from quarterback Graham Mertz.

It was an impressive win on many levels. It was also a necessary one, as now the Badgers are still alive and well in the Big Ten West entering this weekend’s pivotal contest against Iowa.

That win would not have come without the dominance we saw from the ground game. To me, there are three main things to thank for that rushing success on Saturday:
