Three takeaways from Oklahoma’s 82-46 win over TCU

After a bit of a slow start, Oklahoma looked the part of a Big 12 contender on Tuesday night, blowing out TCU by a score of 82-46 and improving their record to 7-4 and 3-3 in Big 12 play.

Part of the challenge that comes with competing in a stacked conference (like the Big 12 this season) is a complete lack of tolerance for slip-ups against the league’s bottom-feeders. TCU is by no means a bad team, but the Horned Frogs remain in the conference’s bottom-three, making them a likely candidate to spoil what’s been an otherwise clean conference slate for Oklahoma.

That’s right. Don’t let the .500 record fool you, Oklahoma is very much in contention for the Big 12 at this point following a trio of close losses to top-15 teams (Texas Tech, Baylor and Kansas). In the Sooners favor: a big win over then-No. 9 West Virginia and two instances of taking care of business. Tonight’s game falls into the latter category.

This season’s treacherous conference schedule will no doubt have its ups-and-downs for Oklahoma, but so long as the Sooners continue to take care of business like they did tonight, they remain in position to contend for their second Big 12 title.
