Three takeaways from Oklahoma’s 79-75 loss against Oklahoma State in Stillwater

Three immediate takeaways from Oklahoma’s 79-75 loss to Oklahoma State on Monday night in Stillwater.

Cade Cunningham was far, far less effective

Give Lon Kruger and the Sooners a whole load of credit for finding a way to minimize Oklahoma State star Cade Cunningham. After exploding for 40 points in the first meeting on Saturday, he didn’t even hit his first shot until just over seven minutes remaining in the game.

He was held to just two points in the first half and those came at the line. He was effectively neutralized. Many were skeptic, and rightfully so, that Oklahoma would be able to find a way to make the necessary adjustments against him with such a short turnaround. He was able to get it going a bit down the stretch, but on the whole this was worlds better than Saturday’s game was.

They did what they needed to against Cunningham and then some, and Kruger deserves heaps of praise for that even in a losing effort.
