Three takeaways from Ohio State basketball’s win over Northwestern

Ohio State split the season series against Northwestern by controlling most of the game Wednesday night. Here are three takeaways.

Does Justin Ahrens deserve more playing time?

It seems like every opportunity Justin Ahrens gets, he’s bombing away with efficiency from deep. In this one, he nailed 4 of 5 three-pointers to chip in twelve key points that made all the difference in the world. Because of injury, he started in this one, and boy did he deliver.

He’s never going to give you much as far as going to the rim, and his defense needs a little more work, but the kid can shoot it better than anyone else on the team. It sure feels like he’s a weapon being under-utilized, and a guy that can stretch out the defense for others to get better opportunities by unclogging the lane. Yet he’s only averaging 13.9 minutes per game while shooting almost 50 percent from three-point range.

I’d love to see what would happen if those minutes went up a bit.
