Building up fan support a goal
Perhaps nobody is more better suited to take over a program that has struggled with fan support than Porter Moser. He discussed that when he took over at Loyola Chicago he was often told that it was in a professional sports market where fans hadn’t supported the team and never would – and then he turned it into a legitimate home court advantage. He intends to do the same in Norman.
He discussed talking to students directly, even joking about passing out hot dogs, and writing in the student newspaper as things he has done in the past and isn’t against doing again if it means he can get fans to the games night in and night out. Moser also pushed back against the idea that the defensive style wouldn’t be overly appealing to viewers, saying he wants “two-way” players and that the defense will lead to offense on the other end of the floor.
He firmly believes he and his staff will have the ability to build the fan base up and have the Lloyd Noble Center as a lively arena each and every time they take the floor. A source of that confidence may lie in the fact that the fans have been unquestionably excited about the hire of Moser on social media since it was announced. Something he expressed a deep gratitude toward.
“I can’t tell you much I appreciate the welcome,” he said. “They’re going to get 110 percent of my energy in trying to win the day everyday.”
Getting the fan support to be at a high level looks to be a top objective of Moser in the coming seasons.
