Building relationships with current players, adding in the transfer portal early objectives
A big question as Porter Moser begins his tenure is just what exactly he plans to do in terms of reconstructing a roster that has seen loads of turnover this offseason. Between players entering the draft and hitting the transfer portal, the team doesn’t currently have much coming back from the group that went to the second round of the NCAA Tournament a year ago.
Moser said the first objective is to establish relationships with the guys that are still in Norman, and that he has already reached out to the incoming freshman joining the program next year. He is aware there is some work to be done in refining the roster moving forward, but talking to the current players has to come first.
“You build a program through relationships,” Moser said. “To build your culture where they want to be a part of something bigger than themselves.”
He then said they are “hitting the ground running” in terms of recruiting and looking to add players through the transfer portal. He doesn’t want the portal to be the lone way they look to add talent and build the team into a contender, but that it is firmly something they are going through right now to fill out the roster going into next season.
That will certainly be something to keep a close eye on over the next few months as Moser’s first team starts to take shape. It seems safe to say a number of transfer additions will be made in due time.
