Football is king, that is no surprise to anyone. However, the NFL dominated the top 100 broadcasts of 2023 according to Sportico. Out of those top 100 broadcasts, 93 NFL games made the list.
College football landed three games on the top 100 led by “The Game” between the Michigan Wolverines and Ohio State Buckeyes. A total of 19 million people turned on the regular season finale in the Big Ten. This contest would determine who would face the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Big Ten title game.
The SEC title game between the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide made the list at No. 71 with 17.5 million fans tuning in. The Tide ultimately held on to earn the conference title for the second time in three seasons and earned a spot in the College Football Playoffs.
To find the third game on the top 100, you have to go back to the 2022-23 CFP National Championship game between the Bulldogs and the TCU Horned Frogs. A total of 17.2 million people tuned in for the game that quickly became a slaughter, ending in the 65-7 beatdown of the Big 12 runner-up.
The only non-football broadcasts that made the list were the State of the Union Address (27.3 million), the 97th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (22.3 million), the 95th Academy Awards (18.8 million), and Next Level Chef episode 12 (157 million).
There is no surprise at the top of the list where Super Bowl LVII between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs drew a total of 115.1 million viewers.
