At one point, three-star Northwestern (Miami, Florida) wide receiver [autotag]Andy Jean[/autotag] was committed to his hometown school of Miami. That changed in March after an unofficial visit to the University of Florida and continued conversations have the Gators in the mix to land the in-state recruit.
Jean will take one of his five official visits to UF on June 24, according to Andrew Ivins of 247Sports. Penn State, who recently offered him on May 4, will get him on June 10 thanks to a healthy relationship with former Hurricanes head coach and current Nittany Lions defensive coordinator Manny Diaz.
Georgia, Miami and Texas A&M round out Jean’s top five, and he says it’s all evened up going into the summer. Ivins thinks that Florida is the team standing out from a third-party perspective based on some of Jean’s comments.
“Florida is a great school,” Jean said. “They make me feel like I’m at home because, you know, it’s still in Florida. They just got great energy there. The coaches are real coaches. They make me smile. When we are off the field, they don’t even really talk about football. And then when we going football things we talk only about football. I like that.”
It sounds like staying near home means something to Jean. Mario Cristobal and the new-look Hurricanes will get a shot to use that hometown play at some point as the 6-foot-1-inch, 180-pounder plans to give them another chance to win him back before he decides. While there’s no date planned just yet, Jean wants to commit before his senior season starts.
Jean is ranked No. 60 among receivers on the 247Sports recruiting rankings, but On3 has his stock a bit higher. The On3 consensus ranks him as a four-star recruit and No. 302 overall nationally. He creeps up to No. 44 among receivers as well.
It’s no secret that Florida is looking to add receivers. Hardly any were added with the class of 2022 and several pass catchers left during the coaching transition. Jean’s star rating might be up for debate, but his speed isn’t. He’s going for state gold next week in the 4×100 after dominating regionals with his speed.
The clock is ticking to land this speedy receiver, and Florida appears well-positioned to pull it off.
