This former Florida wide receiver was placed on COVID-19/reserve list

The New York Giants placed former Florida receiver Kadarius Toney on the COVID-19/reserve list on Thursday.

Former Florida wide receiver Kadarius Toney‘s first training camp with the New York Giants has gotten off to a rocky start. On Thursday, the Giants announced that Toney was placed on the COVID-19/reserve list one day after rookies reported for camp.

Players placed on this list because they’ve tested positive or because they were in close contact with a positive individual. New York said Toney is following NFL protocols by isolating and participating in meetings remotely. The length of his absence is determined by whether he was vaccinated or not.

If the player is vaccinated, tests positive and asymptomatic, the NFL will allow him to return quickly after two negative tests at least 24 hours apart. If Toney is unvaccinated and tests positive, he will have to remain isolated for 10 days and can only return when he’s asymptomatic. It’s also a minimum five-day quarantine if he’s a high-risk close contact.

This isn’t the first time Toney has missed time this offseason. He practiced partially barefoot during rookie minicamp because he said he had the wrong-sized cleats. He also missed conditioning at the end of practices due to a minor injury tweak.

It’s a difficult process for a rookie to learn a team’s playbook. Hopefully, he can return soon, so he doesn’t miss too much time with the Giants.
