This Florida OL among ESPN’s top 50 college football transfers

Florida’s O’Cyrus Torrence broke the top 15 of ESPN’s top-50 transfer players ahead of the 2022 season.

One of the biggest changes in the college sports paradigm over the past few years has been the increased utilization of the transfer portal, which in many ways has served as a de facto free agency system for collegiate athletes. Football has been no exception, with student-athletes crisscrossing the nation either in search of greener pastures or to follow a coach who has taken another job elsewhere.

When [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] came over from the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns to take over Florida’s football program, he brought a trio of players to Gainesville along with him to help rebuild a struggling program. Among them was offensive lineman [autotag]O’Cyrus Torrence[/autotag], who ESPN’s Tom VanHaaren included in his top 50 college football transfers so far in 2022, coming in at No. 14. Here is what he had to offer on the junior lineman.

Torrence has started for Florida all season and is now listed as the top guard prospect in this year’s NFL draft for both Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay. He has been an anchor for the Gators and was part of the push up front that gained 594 total yards and five touchdowns against Tennessee this season.

One thing Kiper got wrong is that Torrence has not started all season — he missed the LSU Tigers game with a lower-body injury. However, the 6-foot-5-inch, 347-pound behemoth has been a bulwark on the offensive line without question and is expected to be back in action against the Georgia Bulldogs this weekend for the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.
