There’s a ‘really good chance’ David Montgomery is activated for Monday’s game

After being sidelined for four games, Bears RB David Montgomery is gearing up for a return against the Steelers.

The Chicago Bears could be getting some reinforcements on their offense ahead of their Monday night matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Head coach Matt Nagy believes running back David Montgomery could be activated off injured reserve for their prime-time game.

“There’s a really good chance, yes,” Nagy told the media on Saturday.

Montgomery was placed on injured reserve after he suffered a knee injury in the team’s Week 4 win against the Detroit Lions. The third-year running back has been practicing with the team this week, effectively opening his 21-day window where he can return to game action.

His status will become more clear in the next day or so, but Nagy seems to think there’s a strong possibility he plays on Monday night.

Through four games, Montgomery was one of the top running backs in the league prior to getting hurt. He has 69 carries for 309 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 4.5 yards per carry. In his absence, rookie running back Khalil Herbert has answered the bell with 344 rushing yards and one touchdown in the last four games.

The Bears face the Steelers on the road Monday night beginning at 7:15 p.m. CT on ESPN.
