Theo Wease named as potential breakout player for the Oklahoma Sooners by 247Sports

247Sports named Wide Receiver Theo Wease as the Oklahoma Sooners breakout player heading into 2022.

The former five-star wide receiver from Allen, Texas hasn’t had the success Sooners fans were expecting since coming to Norman in 2019. After sustaining a leg injury in fall camp, [autotag]Theo Wease[/autotag] only played in one game in 2021 and entered the transfer portal after [autotag]Lincoln Riley[/autotag] left for USC.

To this point, he has 666 yards on 45 catches with six touchdowns, the bulk of his numbers coming in 2020. When on the field, Wease is definitely able to make things happen.

In a piece looking at potential breakout players for each team in the Big 12, 247Sports analyst Riley Gates picked Theo Wease as his breakout candidate for the Oklahoma Sooners.

Everyone loves to see a five-star prospect finally step up and answer the call. Wease was coming on in 2020 with 530 yards and four touchdowns but played just one game in 2021 thanks to an injury. Yes, the Sooners have [autotag]Marvin Mims[/autotag] back at receiver but Michael Woods, Jadon Haselwood and Mario Willliams are all gone. Wease is probably a player many forget about because of his injury, so expect him to step up. – Riley Gates, 247Sports

He returned from the transfer portal after it was announced that [autotag]Brent Venables[/autotag] would be bringing [autotag]Jeff Lebby[/autotag] with him to call his plays on offense. Wease was considering Ole Miss before that returning to Oklahoma.

Wease has talent. He’s just had some unfortunate circumstances to deal with, like a crowded wide receiver room and of course the injury he sustained last August.

Projected to start alongside Marvin Mims, Wease now has [autotag]Dillon Gabriel[/autotag] throwing him the football and one of the nation’s premier offensive masterminds calling his routes. Safe to say, he made the right decision when he returned from the transfer portal.
