The Tua Theories: Potential landing spots for the former Alabama QB

There are numerous theories surrounding Tua Tagovailoa’s potential NFL landing spot. Let’s explore some of the most popular ideas.

Former Alabama star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is often hailed as one of the best quarterbacks in college football for this generation, a title which would often be acquainted with being the first quarterback selected in their respective NFL draft. However, that’s not the case for the 2018 Heisman finalist.

LSU’s Joe Burrow is almost guaranteed to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, which means Tagovailoa should be the next signal caller off the board.

The question on everyone’s mind is: Where will he be selected?

Entering his junior season, he was expected to be the clear choice for the No. 1 overall pick, so much so that ‘Tank for Tua’ was a thing early in the 2019 NFL season,  but injuries and Burrow got in the way of that.

His predicted landing spot has fluctuated for just under a year now, but they have been all over the place. Everything from top-three to even exiting the first round has been thrown out for speculation.

With about a month remaining before we know where the Crimson Tide product will start his NFL career let’s explore all the current possibilities for Tagovailoa.

1. Drafted at No. 3 by Detroit

The Lions still have veteran Matthew Stafford under center, a quarterback who has made a decent splash in the NFL community and is a recognizable name, but has not been able to take the Lions to the next level.

Matt Patricia is entering his third year as a head coach with Detroit and is trying to show that he’s able to improve the Lions overall from the status quo.   He hasn’t been able to do that as he has failed to provide a winning season for the franchise.

An opportunity to show he’s at least making an effort to change the team’s ways is to draft the highly coveted Tagovailoa.
