Man, the Houston Rockets are really having the worst two-week offseason possible. They’re going out sad and you hate to see it.
First, reports surfaced on Wednesday that Russell Westbrook and James Harden were concerned about the direction of the franchise with Daryl Morey and Mike D’Antoni out the door, per ESPN’s Tim McMahon and Adrian Wojnarowksi.
Then, a few hours later, Westbrook reportedly put the nail in the coffin. He requested a trade from the team, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania. And then Charania proceeded to drop a scathing report about how there’s discord all throughout the team.
So, of course, on Thursday you’d expect damage control to kick in. You know how that goes. We normally get denials from all directions. Players, teams, coaches, all that.
But here? We just got the Rockets wishing a happy birthday to Russ.

This is absolutely hilarious.
Now, to be fair, it is Westbrook’s birthday. He just turned 32 years old. But, instead of a birthday wish from his team, he seems to want to get out of town. And that’s what makes this tweet so wild.
Think of it like this. Imagine someone is trying to break up with you. They tell you and all of your mutual friends. All that’s left is for you to accept it and move on. But instead of updating your relationship status on Facebook, you wish them a happy birthday.
HILARIOUS. And mad awkward. NBA fans thought so too.

Don’t ever let anyone tell you the NBA isn’t entertaining. Because this is entertainment in its purest form.
