The NFL’s best cornerbacks in man coverage

The ability to play man coverage has always been highly important in the NFL. Who’s best at it coming into the 2020 NFL season?

5. Tre’Davious White, Buffalo Bills

Last December, I did a tape study of the two cornerbacks I consider to be the NFL’s best at this time — New England’s Stephon Gilmore and Buffalo’s Tre’Davious White. I came to the conclusion that Gilmore is the league’s most effective man coverage corner and White is the best cornerback in zone coverage. But that doesn’t mean White is a slouch when it’s time to work away from zone — he has the athleticism and diagnostic abilities to do whatever he wants. That’s how, when playing man coverage, White gave up 15 catches on 35 targets for 132 yards, no touchdowns, one interception, and a Positive Play Rate of 31.4%, which was third-best in the NFL.
