The NFL is hiring a Vice President of Sports Betting

The NFL’s foray into sports betting is set to get even stronger.

The NFL hasn’t been shy about embracing sports betting as it becomes legal in jurisdictions across the United States. In early 2021, the league announced deals with three different sportsbooks to become “Official Sports Betting Partners.” Four more books joined the ranks four months later, allowing them the right to advertise on NFL broadcasts and use league branding in their promotional materials.

Coordinating these deals as the market expands is a major lift. Now, the NFL is looking for a Vice President, General Manager – Sports Betting to handle the league’s foray into deeper waters as wagering gets greenlit by legislative bodies throughout the nation.

The Vice President, General Manager – Sports Betting would oversee the league’s gambling initiative, working to “protect the integrity of the game” — a timely tenet following Calvin Ridley’s indefinite suspension for wagering on Atlanta Falcons games — and expand business relationships with interested sponsors or partners.

A look at the league’s other current job postings suggests the NFL may we building its own foray into gaming options. Its official website advertises roles for computer programmers who can “combine expert level design skills and forward design thinking to develop a clear vision for the future of NFL digital gaming experiences.” Could a league-sponsored betting app be next?

That sounds like something the first-ever VP of Sports Betting would have to tackle.
