The Lions release TE Jordan Thomas with non-football injury designation

Thomas was signed to a reserve/future contract by the Lions in January

Jordan Thomas is no longer a member of the Detroit Lions.

You’re forgiven if you didn’t remember that Thomas was ever on the Lions. The tight end never suited up for Detroit. He was signed to a reserve/future contract back in January. The team never even assigned Thomas a jersey number.

Thomas, 25, was a sixth-round pick by the Houston Texans in the 2018 NFL draft. He started 10 games as a rookie but has played in just 11 games in the ensuing three seasons thanks to a litany of injuries. He was waived/injured by the Indianapolis Colts before the 2021 season.

The Lions officially released Thomas with a non-football injury designation, per the NFL’s transaction wire.
