The Last Dance: Five Notre Dame Connections to Michael Jordan

Have you enjoyed “The Last Dance” on ESPN? Michael Jordan never played against Notre Dame but he did have more than a couple connections.

This one I had no idea about until doing a little bit of research but a guy who is shown at various times in “The Last Dance” during the 1998 season was at one time a Notre Dame basketball player.

Joe Kleine was drafted sixth overall by the Sacramento Kings in 1985 and bounced around the NBA until his career came to an end following the 1999-2000 NBA season.

Kleine spent 1998 with Jordan and the Bulls and was able to play alongside Larry Bird and Charles Barkley among various other hall of famers during his career.

Kleine spent his freshman year of college at Notre Dame in 1980-81 before transferring to Arkansas and earning a spot on the 1984 USA Olympic basketball team.

Kleine took up a career in coaching after his playing days and now owns  Corky’s BBQ & Ribs in Little Rock, Arkansas.
