There has been a lot of chatter recently about projected first-round pick and former Clemson Andrew Booth Jr. and where he might end up come the start of the 2022 NFL Draft on April 28th.
It’s pretty safe to say Booth is a locked-in first rounder come draft day; the honest debate is who he’ll go to in the first round. While we’ve seen various mocks having him go to the Eagles, Patriots, Bills, and others, this Touchdown Wire mock has Booth going the earliest I’ve seen yet.
No.13 Houston Texans: Andrew Booth Jr., CB Clemson
Since the Houston Texans went with an offensive tackle third overall, they switch to the defensive side of the ball and select cornerback, Andrew Booth Jr from Clemson.
Lovie Smith mentioned this offseason that his cornerback group did not play up to par last year. They were bottom ten in the league when it came to completion percentage and passing yards allowed. Booth is versatile who can play both man and zone coverages and has incredible ball-skills. In Booth’s 25 games at Clemson, he had 68 tackles, three tackles for loss, nine passes defensed and five interceptions.
Seeing Booth mocked at No.13 to the Texans is something I personally haven’t considered, but the fit is there. Lovie Smith is the type of coach who would love what Booth can do on the field right now and his potential to give so much more in the future.
I could see this happening, though; I must acknowledge how unlikely this is. The Texans have so many holes to fill all over their roster, including CB, but I see them taking the value and trading down from pick No.13.
This draft is considered one of the deepest to date, with less top-heavy talent but more depth to pick around. If the Texans are bright, the Texans will look to move back and take advantage of how deep the class runs.
