It’s not something that happens often of late, but a player waived by the Detroit Lions was perceived by another team as strong enough to claim. The New York Giants placed a successful waiver claim on ex-Lions tight end Jake Hausmann.
The undrafted rookie from Ohio State joins the Giants now after being dumped by the Lions on Friday. Detroit has a glut of talent at the TE position and Hausmann struggled to make much of his limited reps in training camp. He gets a fresh start with Joe Judge and the Giants, who can use depth at the position.
As a result of the claim, the Giants inherit Hausmann’s free agent contract he signed with the Lions after the draft.
