3. Detroit Lions
Like many of the other teams on this list, the Detroit Lions have talent at a number of positions, and players that other organizations might covet on the open market. Quarterback Matthew Stafford does things that few other passers can do both inside and outside of the pocket. Kenny Golladay might be one of the best receivers in the game, and has statistics to back up that position. Jeff Okudah looks every bit the part of a future lockdown cornerback.
But while the pieces are good, the whole is more of a question. The offensive line is a big question, given Stafford’s back injuries the past few seasons, both on the interior and at the tackle spots. Can Halapoulivaati Vaitai handle the right tackle spot? Who starts at right guard? Is is rookie Jonah Jackson, rookie Logan Stenberg, or perhaps veteran Oday Aboushi? Can T.J. Hockenson live up to his pre-draft hype, or is Jesse James going to be the answer at that spot?
On the defensive side of the football, Bill Belichick does have familiar faces to work with. Oh, that’s right. These just look like the New England Patriots, with Danny Shelton, Trey Flowers, Jamie Collins and Duron Harmon now in Detroit. Talented players, to be sure, but there is a bit of conventional wisdom to keep in mind: When Belichick moves on from a player, buyer beware.
