The eleven thinnest rosters in the NFL

Depth, or a lack thereof, might mean more in the 2020 NFL season given COVID-19. What teams face questions about roster depth?

If I have some time this offseason, there is a short story to be written. A remake of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” featuring the Los Angeles Rams, who are visited first in the night by the Jacksonville Jaguars. A cautionary tale of what awaits them in the future…

Think about it. The Jaguars also loaded up on defense around a rookie quarterback in Blake Bortles, fell short of a run at a Super Bowl (questions about the knee of Myles Jack at Gillette Stadium aside) and now are forced to rebuild as they sell off the parts of a once-dominant defense. That process is underway, with A.J. Bouye and Calais Campbell among the latest departures. The world awaits on the status of defensive end Yannick Ngakoue.

To be fair, Jacksonville may have started their rebuild on a very strong note. They might have a replacement for Bouye (and in a sense Jalen Ramsey) with C.J. Henderson. They might have a potential replacement on the edge for Ngakoue in K’Lavon Chaisson. Offensively, they opted to try and build around Gardner Minshew II, adding wide receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. in the second round, a great option if used in a versatile manner, gives them an intriguing piece. D.J. Chark is an emerging talent as well at the wide receiver spot. But offensive line depth is a question, as is the tight end position, specifically with Tyler Eifert’s health.

“Marley was dead to begin with…”
