“Stop trying to make fetch happen!”
Except change “fetch” to “Colorado football” and the quote from the hit movie Mean Girls that featured Lindsay Lohan back in 2004 would be on to the upcoming new college football video game from EA Sports.
Colorado finished last year with a 4-8 overall record, going just 1-8 in the final year of the Pac 12. Sure, they hit the transfer portal hard and could possibly go as far as to qualify for a bowl game this year, but EA Sports thinks they’re a top-20 team entering 2024.
EA Sports released their team ratings on Thursday, at least the top 25 offenses and defenses and guess what.
The Colorado Buffaloes, fresh off that 4-8 campaign, checked into the top-20 in both.
EA Sports ranked Colorado’s offense an 89, which tied them for the fifth-highest rating in the game. In case you were curious, Colorado’s offense averaged the 99th most yards per play in 2023.
Defensively, Colorado gave up 30 or more points seven times in 12 games last year. Despite that the Buffaloes were given an 84 overall rating, good for the 20th best in the game.
Seeing as EA Sports ranked Colorado to have both a top-20 offense and defense, one would think when the team rankings come out that they’ll be a top-20 team in the game.
With Coach Prime, Deion Sanders at the controls (figuratively) and stars like both-way standout [autotag]Travis Hunter[/autotag], it’s certain that many of the casual college football fans who play the game will pick Colorado. It’s just too bad they’ll get a very wrong idea of the Buffaloes as a whole entering a season that they might just get crazy, finish .500, and make a bowl game.
For whatever its worth, Notre Dame checked in with the 17th best offense and sixth best defense.
