The Miami Dolphins finished the search for their next head coach on Sunday when they agreed to a deal with San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, McDaniel’s contract is for four years, but the salary isn’t known at this time. That timeframe is basically what every first-time head coach gets, so that’s not all that surprising.
McDaniel beat out Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as a finalist for the job, as both men had their second interviews in the last couple of days.
Now, the new leader of the Dolphins has a lot of work to do to catch up to other teams that didn’t make changes or made them quicker. It will be interesting to see what type of staff McDaniel is able to put together, especially considering NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has stated that he could keep many of the defensive assistants, including defensive coordinator Josh Boyer.
