The Dallas Cowboys needed that loss to the Philadelphia Eagles

It’s time for the Dallas Cowboys to get fixed.

The Dallas Cowboys went to Philly on Sunday knowing a win would give them the NFC East title and a trip to the playoffs.

So what did they do?

They laid a total egg, which was so perfect considering how this lost season has gone for Jason Garrett and the Dallas Cowboys. But maybe it’s exactly what they needed to happen, so they can finally start fixing this broken franchise.

The Cowboys scored just nine points – a week after they looked really darn good by throwing up 44 points on the Rams.

Garrett, who fans in Dallas are ready to be done with, made some dicey play calls during the game and then explained after that two of the team’s best wide receivers sat out the final offensive play because they were tired.

And then the team had issues with its plane and had to wait in the team buses at the Lincoln Financial Field while the they tried to figure out what to do.

Just an incredible way to end a day that we all saw coming for quite some time.

The Cowboys can still make the playoffs – they need to beat the Redskins at home next week and have the Eagles lose to the Giants on the road, which all could very well happen.

But this team’s very public struggles down the stretch of this season makes it seem like they should just forget about the playoffs, fire Garrett, and start working on their future as soon as they can.

Because their present is a total mess.

Garrett has been on the hot seat for what feels like a few years now, as Cowboys fans have long called for change. Jones, however, has loved Garrett, keeping him on as head coach for 10 years. 10 years!

This team has way too much talent to play like it did on Sunday or like it did in the other ugly losses down the stretch.

Sunday’s loss should serve a harsh lesson about who they really are as a franchise. Not going to the playoffs this year could spark some big changes that need to be made. That loss to the Eagles could be exactly what the Cowboys need.

It’s time for Jerry Jones to look at himself in the mirror and make the moves necessary to bring this storied franchise back to being a contender.
