It’s been about four months since former No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns, and on Wednesday, he finally got his wish.
According to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Browns agreed to trade Mayfield to the Carolina Panthers for a 2024 conditional fifth-round pick.
The relationship between the Browns and Mayfield soured considerably this past season as Mayfield regressed from his 2020 effort. Mayfield did play through a shoulder injury in 2021, but when the Browns decided to acquire Deshaun Watson — despite 20-plus civil lawsuits for sexual misconduct — Mayfield’s days in Cleveland were numbered.
Mayfield won’t have to wait long to face his former team either. Carolina’s Week 1 opponent is the Cleveland Browns because of course.

As expected, NFL fans had so many thoughts on the trade.
