The historic signing of star forward Jaylen Brown by the Boston Celtics to a five-year supermax contract extension worth over $300 million was the richest deal in NBA history, and has since garnered more than its fair share of criticism.

The move showcases the ball club’s fear of missing out on Brown’s potential and talent, as they secure him with a supermax contract, keeping him contractually obligated to the team until the 2028-2029 season. Despite prior concerns about Brown’s discontent with Boston and likely annoyance at constantly being included in trade rumors, the Celtics were willing to pay a premium to retain him, demonstrating their commitment to building the team around him and fellow star forward Jayson Tatum.

To break down his interpretation of why the Celtics went all in on the Georgia native with the extension, the eponymous host of the Fox Sports “Ben Maller” show put out a clip we have embedded below.

Check it out to get a different point of view on why Boston has made Brown the owner of the richest deal in NBA history.
