The Chicago Bears entered Sunday’s Wild Card game against the New Orleans Saints as 11.5 or 11-point underdogs in some places where one would place bets on games.
So when they scored a TD with no time left to make it a 12-point game, it appeared that they might pull off one heck of a back-door cover.
But then no extra point was attempted, the teams ran on the field and shook hands, and fans everywhere who had some money on that spread couldn’t believe what had just happened.
The Saints, meanwhile, won the game, 21-9, and will host the Bucs next week.
Here’s why that extra point wasn’t even attempted:
No extension for the extra point since the the differential in points was more than two. I would imagine there are a lot of people happy with this rule.

if you score a td with 0 seconds on the clock down 7, it's not like you don't get to kick the extra point so you lose anyway. WRITING A LETTER TO THE NFL

The Bears were +11.5 and didn't kick the extra point to cover!!! pic.twitter.com/eXd27Rrjae

OH MY.
Bears (+11) score a TD as time expires, but game is over so no extra point or two-point attempt.
Saints cover all numbers.
Final score: New Orleans 21, Chicago 9
