The Athletic predicts Joel Embiid to win MVP, Sixers to win title in 2023

The Athletic is predicting that the Philadelphia 76ers will win the title in 2023 and Joel Embiid will win the MVP award.

The Philadelphia 76ers are one of the more talented teams in the league. They are led by two stars, Joel Embiid and James Harden, and a strong supporting cast that should vault the Sixers into legitimate title conversations in the 2022-23 season.

The Sixers brought in PJ Tucker and De’Anthony Melton to join their Big 3 of Embiid, Harden and Tyrese Maxey. They should make Philadelphia tougher and give it more players who excel at both ends of the court. That will come in handy when the playoffs roll around and attributes such as those will come to light when the time comes.

The Athletic’s John Hollinger believes the Sixers have done enough to finally get over the top in the Eastern Conference and in his preview, he has the Sixers winning the title and he has Embiid winning the MVP award:

I’m not sure this team will have the best record in the East in the regular season, not with Embiid playing 65-ish games and Harden putting it into cruise control on random January nights in Detroit. But the improved depth should be a big factor in managing the odometer on Harden and Embiid; Philly should finish in the top-three seeds without putting too much strain on its key players. Get them to a postseason series healthy, and I like how they match up against the Bucks, Celtics and Nets.

So here goes: I’m picking Philly to win it all, and Embiid to win MVP. Check back in nine months for a good laugh.

The Sixers will certainly be in the conversation to come out of the Eastern Conference. The big factor is going to be playoff time and Embiid’s health as he is the engine that will drive everything when it comes to their success.
