Texas’ Xavier Worthy, Kelvin Banks named AP preseason All-Americans

The duo earned second-team honors.

On Monday, Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy and left tackle Kelvin Banks earned preseason All-American honors from the Associated Press.

The duo earned second-team recognition. It marks the second time Worthy has earned preseason AP honors, while it’s the first for Banks.

Worthy has been named to a plethora of watch lists this offseason, including the Maxwell Award, Paul Horning Award, Biletnikoff Award, and Walter Camp Player of the Year Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award. The third-year wide receiver is expected to put up big numbers this season with the improved play of quarterback Quinn Ewers.

Banks is considered one of the top left tackles in the country as a sophomore. During his true freshman season, Banks started all 13 games and was named a Freshman All-American by The Athletic and was chosen to ESPN’s True Freshman All-America team.

Texas will need strong seasons from Worthy and Banks if they hope to compete for a Big 12 title in 2023.
