Texas Women’s Basketball: Oklahoma game postponed due to COVID-19

The Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners women’s basketball game was set to tipoff on Jan. 12, that game has been postponed due to COVID-19.

Despite the hot start for the Texas women’s basketball team under new head coach Vic Schaeffer, it hasn’t come without their fair share of disruptions early on in the season.

Texas had their matchup with Tennesee and their first meeting against Kansas postponed. The Jayhawks postponement pushed their conference opener to Dec. 21, where they defeated the Kansas State Wildcats in Manhattan. The final score in that matchup was 62-52.

Thus far, the Longhorns have started 8-1 and 2-0 in Big 12 play. Their next matchup was set for Jan. 12 against the Oklahoma Sooners in Austin, but that game is now being postponed due to COVID-19 implications on the Sooners side. Oklahoma will be under the minimum number of players to participate in the game.

The Sooners were expected to tip-off against TCU on Saturday ahead of their showdown with Texas on Jan. 12. This marks the third game for Texas that has been disrupted in the inaugural season under Schaeffer.

Through nine games, Texas forward Charli Collier is the second-leading scorer in the Big 12 Conference with 23.4 points per game. She also ranks third in rebounding with 10.6 per game. The talented forward is a walking double-double for the first-year head coach. Duke transfer point guard Kyra Lambert leads the conference with her assist to turnover ration of 3.67.

The No. 17 Longhorns will now take the court on Jan. 17 against Texas Tech in Lubbock.
