The Oklahoma Sooners could be on their way to improving their receiver room. They could do so with former Texas wide receiver Brenen Thompson.
Thompson was highly regarded out of high school and flashed ability in little playing time with the Longhorns. However, as it became evident freshman receiver Johntay Cook and dynamic transfers AD Mitchell and Isaiah Neyor would factor heavily into the roster, the Spearman speedster looked to be falling down the depth chart.
The former Top 75 prospect would likely have the opportunity to compete for a starting job at Oklahoma alongside Michigan transfer Andrel Anthony and returning receivers Drake Stoops and Jalil Farooq. That opportunity likely weighs heavily on Thompson’s mind after being overtaken on the depth chart this spring.
Thompson was said to have grown up a Longhorns fan but appears to be making a business decision. Oklahoma would figure to be a good fit given Jeff Lebby’s emphasis on speed and pace over technical route running.
Oklahoma Insider Parker Thune predicted Thompson to choose the Sooners as his next destination. We will monitor where he ends up in the coming months.
