Texas sweeps doubleheader to clinch the series over West Virginia

Pete Hansen and Lucas Gordon set the tone for the Horns on the mound while Ivan Melendez launched three home runs.

Texas dominated in all phases of the game en route to a doubleheader sweep over West Virginia.

Pete Hansen and Lucas Gordon set the tone for the Horns on the mound. The lefty duo carved up the Mountaineers lineup, pitching deep enough into each game to save the bullpen for Sunday.

Texas’ defense flashed the leather behind the great pitching from Hansen and Gordon. This rare 7-6-3 double play ended a West Virginia threat in game one.

Ivan Melendez added to his historic season while mashing three home runs on the day. The Longhorns first baseman is now hitting .426 with 25 bombs on the season.

Melendez was not the only Longhorn to have a big day at the plate. Murphy Stehly, Doug Hodo, Trey Faltine and Austin Todd all added home runs of their own.

Texas and West Virginia will square off again on Sunday for the series finale. A sweep would put Texas right back into the NCAA hosting conversation.
