The work in the transfer portal may start paying off soon for Texas.
It is no secret that the Longhorns offensive line was abysmal this past season, as the unit was constantly rotating players in and out trying to find a competent lineup that could hold up.
There was never really a best lineup in terms of the offensive line, but the struggles were at least less apparent in the the final few games of the season. Needless to say, this is one the biggest needs for the staff to purse whether it be from the high school ranks or the transfer portal.
Texas is in the mix for multiple high level recruits at this position, and recently received great news in terms of one transfer offensive lineman. The Longhorns received a crystal ball prediction in their favor for one of the top-40 players in the transfer portal, Minnesota offensive lineman Curtis Dunlap.
The 6-foot-5, 345-pound lineman has experience at guard and could bring needed leadership to Kyle Flood’s unit. During the 2019 season, his performance earned him not only Outstanding Offensive Freshman, but also All-Big Ten Honorable Mention.
Texas badly needs someone with experience to come in and anchor this offensive line, while also actually being able to be a consistent contributor.
If Steve Sarkisian and his staff can bring Dunlap home, while also adding a couple other offensive lineman from the 2022 recruiting class, the Longhorns will be in great shape moving forward.
