To say there’s high expectations surrounding Bijan Robinson’s collegiate career at Texas would be an understatement.
The former five-star recruit continues to receive accolades after his impressive freshman campaign. ESPN recently released their 2020 true freshman All-America team (link requires subscription) that includes players from all FBS conferences.
Take a look at what ESPN had to say about Robinson’s first season on the Forty Acres.
This position was arguably the toughest to call. Kansas State’s diminutive but highly productive Deuce Vaughn just missed the cut, with this distinction ultimately going to the No. 3-ranked running back in the 2020 class. Robinson became the Longhorns’ go-to back midway through the season, and the 6-foot, 222-pounder glided his way to 703 yards on 86 carries, with six total touchdowns (899 all-purpose yards). Robinson’s combination of vision, tackle-breaking ability and elusiveness in the open field have him among the early favorites in the Heisman Trophy hunt next season.
Under a brilliant offensive minded head coach in Steve Sarkisian, Robinson’s load should benefit most. Former head coach Tom Herman waited to feature Robinson as the lead back until the final few weeks of the season.
If you’ve witnessed what Sarkisian was able to do with running back Najee Harris at Alabama, there’s no question that Robinson will be among the most talked about Heisman contenders in 2021.
