Texas quarterback target Arch Manning ranks as the consensus No. 1 overall recruit

The Longhorns are in great position to potentially land the consensus No. 1 overall recruit for the 2023 cycle.

In what may be the most important recruiting battle of the class, the Longhorns are looking to fend off both Georgia and Alabama for the services of five-star Arch Manning.

The five-star prospect, who is the grandson of Archie Manning and nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning, was recently ranked the consensus No. 1 overall recruit for the 2023 class according to On3’s Consensus.

This is not just their ranking, as it takes the average ranking from major recruiting sites in 247Sports, ESPN, Rivals, and their own into consideration.

If the Longhorns are able to land Manning, it would be the first time since 2002 (Vince Young), that Texas was able to land the No. 1 overall recruit.

Manning has been absolutely terrorizing defenses at the high school level. In three years he has thrown for over 6,000 passing yards, 81 touchdowns to just 17 interceptions, and has also added 19 rushing touchdowns.

Landing him would also mean that Texas has landed three quarterbacks in Young and Ohio State transfer Quinn Ewers who held a perfect rating by 247Sports.

Manning has been on campus multiple times, and according to On3’s predictor, Texas is currently the slight favorite to land him.

The Longhorns will need a huge season and recruiting pitch to fend off both Georgia and Alabama, who both of which will likely have an open quarterback spot his freshman season after the departures of their current quarterbacks.

Manning has expressed that Ewers being on the roster doesn’t deter him from Texas, which is a positive sign, but the staff will need to ensure that they pull out all the stops to add him to their quarterback room. Manning remains the only quarterback that Texas has offered for the 2023 cycle.
