Texas Longhorns senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger has been named to the Davey O’Brien Award’s Class of 2020. The award is given to the top quarterback in college football. Colt McCoy was the last Longhorns passer to win the award for his 2009 season. Vince Young also won the award back in 2005 for his magical run to the BCS National Championship.

Ehlinger has thrown for 2,132 yards with 23 touchdowns and just five interceptions in his final season. According to a press release from the committee, the semifinalists for the award will be announced on December 7th.
A point scoring model was used to determine the quarterbacks in the Davey O’Brien Award’s Class of 2020. Points were awarded to players based on their overall performance as well as inclusion on the Davey O’Brien Preseason Watch List, weekly Great 8 lists and National Quarterback of the Week winners.
The Davey O’Brien National Selection Committee will select 16 semifinalists for the award, and announce them on Monday, Dec. 7.
