Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers made his Longhorns debut in a 52-10 season-opening win over UL Monroe. The redshirt freshman completed 16 of 24 passes for two touchdowns in the performance.
Steve Sarkisian praised how his quarterback handled his first game at Texas and bounced back after a shaky start. Sark complemented Ewers’ growing leadership ability with the media this week.
“I think he did great. It’s only going to continue to improve because I’ve seen it. I’ve really started to see it in kind of the second half of this last week. You could feel his presence and you can start to see he’s getting more comfortable. It’s tough when you’re a first-year starter and you’re barking at guys to do something about what the call is or motivating guys. I think he is totally out of his shell now and he’s got a lot of respect from his teammates.”
Texas faces a huge test this week as No. 1 Alabama comes to town. Ewers hopes to lead the Texas offense to a big day and potentially pull off the upset.
