Steve Sarkisian is receiving much of the credit for Arch Manning’s commitment.
Sarkisian’s creative offensive mind and long list of NFL draft picks at the position no doubt won out with Manning. However, Texas quarterbacks coach A.J. Milwee played a significant role in picking up a commitment from the generational prospect.
According to Manning’s high school coach Nelson Stewart, Milwee frequently could be found at the Isadore Newman High School practice facility.
“I think I’ve talked to A.J. Milwee more than my wife the last two years,” said Stewart. According to Pete Thamel of ESPN, Nelson quipped that Milwee turned on the lights at 7 a.m. at the Isadore Newman weight room.
Stewart also told ESPN that Texas QB coach A.J. Milwee was a huge part of the recruitment. "I think I’ve talked to A.J. Milwee more than my wife the last two years." He joked that Milwee was around so much Milwee turned the light on in the Isidore Newman weight room at 7 a.m. https://t.co/Vjv4c6sp6Z

Persistence has won out in a number of recruiting battles for Texas since Steve Sarkisian took over. Milwee’s ability to stick with Manning through the process played a pivotal role in bringing him to Texas.
Milwee’s ability to be tactful and involved without being pushy could certainly pay dividends in future recruiting battles.
